World Cleanup Day

A global civic movement that unites millions of volunteers to clean up waste and mismanaged trash.

About

World Cleanup Day is a global civic movement focused on addressing the worldwide mismanaged waste crisis. Millions of volunteers and organizations in more than 190 countries participate in synchronized cleanup and waste-mapping events.

This international observance occurs annually on the third Saturday of September. As an international observance, it does not have a public holiday status in any single country, nor do businesses or government offices typically close in recognition.

Why it matters

The day significantly elevates consciousness regarding global solid waste and plastic pollution issues. It actively promotes a transformation towards more sustainable waste management practices and the adoption of circular economy principles.

By fostering collective environmental action, World Cleanup Day encourages individuals and communities to engage directly in solutions for a cleaner planet.
