Sarawak Independence Day

Commemorated annually on July 22, Sarawak Independence Day honors the date in 1963 when self-governance was granted by the British Empire to the territory. Within the state of Sarawak, this date is recognized as a formal public holiday by the Malaysian government.

Consequently, financial institutions, government departments, and educational facilities remain closed to the public. While it is an official day off for those in Sarawak, the observance is not a federal public holiday for the rest of Malaysia.
