Harvest Festival

In Malaysia, the Harvest Festival occurs every May 30 as a reflection of East Malaysian agrarian heritage, specifically representing Tadau Kaamaatan in Sabah and Gawai Dayak in Sarawak. This day acknowledges the successful collection of rice crops and serves to honor the spirits traditionally believed to govern agricultural cycles.

The government designates this date as a public holiday, though its mandatory status specifically applies to the states of Sabah and Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan. Throughout these regions, most commercial establishments, government offices, and schools remain closed to allow residents to participate in festivities.
